31. October - 13. November 2011

Starting into the second half with beautiful weather

On Monday I went with Silvano and Sandra to Dublin. At first we took the baggage
to the airport afterwards we traveled with the bus to the City. This tour takes a
long time, because there are many bus stops on the way to the city center.
We had 2 1/2 hours time for shopping and lunch. At lunchtime we found a special
restaurant "The Church", which is an old church, built in 1700 and reopened as a
restaurant and bar in 2005. When the churches in Switzerland also had bars inside,
I think I would also visit these sometimes. :-)
After the return trip with the taxi to the airport we had to say goodbye.

Close to the city centre is Lough Atalia, a beautiful natur in the heart oft the city.

On Saturday I took a day tour to Inis Mór, Aran Islands. With a shutlebus I went to
Rossaveel, and then with Aran Ferries to Inis Mór.  Fortunately, then the sea was
very calm on this day. I wouldn't want to know how the trip would be by stormy
weather. ;-) On the island I hired a bike and rode to Dun Aengus. After a short
walk I enjoyed a beautiful view from the cliffs. Afterwards I returned with the bike
across the island to the pier.

Another nice trip I took on Sunday trough the Burren to the Cliffs of Moher with
many photostops by attractions like Dunguaire Castle, Corcomroe Abbey, Gleninsheen
Wedge Tomb, Poulnabrone Dolmen etc. After a lunch in Doolin we went to the
impressive Cliffs of Moher. After the stay by the cliffs the bus took us along the sea
back to Galway.

Because the weather was still very nice, I decided once again for a day tour to
Connemara. This time with O' Neachtain Tours, also here with some photo stops.
The first one for a walk through Deserted Famine Village, and then Screeb Wasserfall
und Kylemore Abbey. Here we had 2 1/2 hours time for lunch and for visiting the
abbey and the victorian garten. Unfortunately on the way back to Galway it was too
dark for photos.

Visitors from Switzerland

On Thursday evening my family arrived in Galway. The rest of the evening we
enjoyed a nice dinner. On Friday and Sunday we went sightseeing and shopping.
On Friday evening we were invited for coffee and cake by my host family. After
them we went for a guinness to O'Connors pub in Salthill.

As I have tested various trips previously, I decided to make with my family a daytour
through the Burren to the Cliffs of Moher, which are even by a second (or third)
visit very impressive.

On Monday morning at 6 clock I had to say goodbye to my family. After I had
accompanied them to the bus station I went back to my host family for a second
breakfast. ;-)

A friend rented a car for the weekend and we went with three other friends to
Killarney. By very stormy weather, we took a short lunch stop at the Cliffs of Moher,
which offered in this weather again a very different sight. After lunch we drove to
Adare and after a short photo stop further to Killarny. This is a nice city and we
decided to stay there for the night. On Sunday we set off early and drove through
the Killarney Nationalpark, Ring of Kerry and to Dingle and back to Galway.

The end

Since the weather was the last two weeks very unsettled and stormy, I spent
the time to buy the last souvenirs and to take short trips in the surrounding area.

Because it was my last weekend in Ireland, on Saturday I wanted to do another
tour despite of the uncertain weather. So I went with the bus to Barna. After an
Irish coffee by Donnelly's (a short rainshower forced me to it ;-) ) I walked back
to Galway.

On Monday and Thusday was very stormy weather with many hail showers. After
consideration and observing the squalls during the lunch, I decided to travel to
Ardrahan. On the way to the bus station, I had to stand under a shelter a few
times, as sunshine and hail showers alternated in short intervals.
